An Artist's Holiday at Dasawana A good value in its price range,
Dasawana is a peaceful place where guests are welcomed as friends;
its owners also run the Kamasan Arts Centre in Klungkung. The
bungalows are built over a verdant coconut grove near the pool:
the ones with two beds and a small kitchen are suitable for families.

Besides
trekking to Sidemen or Tenganan, guest can join painting courses
or cultural classes like gamelan, dance, or craftmaking in Kamasan.
Paintings and crafts from Kamasan village are for sale. At the
back of the hotel is a composting burrow to minimize the use of
chemical fertilizers. In the Coconuts at Ida's Homestay's This
cozy, simple place is a reminder of what Candidasa looked like
before the tourist boom. Its wood-and-bamboo bungalows, neatly
furnished with antiques, are aligned in front of a coconut grove
that spreads all the way to the shore. While other places have
tried to cram as many rooms as possible onto their land, Ida's
has chosen to keep a lot of open space. The little bale pavilions
next to the shore are the perfect place to enjoy the cool breeze.
Treks up to Mt Agung or Tenganan can be arranged by the staff.
Ask about any upcoming upacara (ceremonies) and they'll be glad
to take you there.
If
you can't a room at Ida's or are looking for something more comfortable,
Kelapa Mas, the place next door, is a good alternative. It doesn't
have the same natural feeling, but has still managed to keep a
large garden, its white brick cottages, facing the sea or the
garden, are in reasonable condition. Kelapa Mas has an Internet
café' (Rp20,000/h), a library of books left by travellers,
and a restaurant which features Balinese dance performances.
