What to Do – Kuta and Seminyak

For a one-hour massage, which you can request more or less strong (keras) depending on your taste. You can also get spoiled with a pedicure, manicure, or foot massage. These ladies, coming from families, may not always have very smooth hands, so it may feel like you're getting a scrub at the same time – but they keep most of the money(minus a small fee for the village association). Get pampered on a rented mattress in the shadow of an umbrella, so your masseuse doesn't have to sweat under the hot sun. Also along the beach, in Petitenget, to the right of La Luciola restaurant , there are a few huts where you can get good massages while looking at the waves. If you want to be treated in an ind oor setting, most hotels should be able to call a masseuse for you.

Alternatively, you can get a great service at any small neighbourhood salon. Ask for a shoulder massa ge while having a haircut, and don't miss the opportunity to try a “cream bath” – an hedonistic, two – hour – long massa ge of the scalp and neck under a thick layer of cream that foams above your hair. A good place for such treatment is the friendly New Planet Beauty Salon on Jl. Seminyak, or Body and Hair Solutions on Jl. Kerobokan in Banjar Taman, near Lola Restaurant.

For something a bit more sophisticated with essen tial oils, flower petals, and sweet music, you can try any of the spas that have mushroomed, especially in posh hotels. Beware that in many cases, you're going to pay more than Rp200, 000 for a massa ge which may not be better than on the beach – you pay for the environment.
