What
to Do – Kuta and Seminyak
Another
great way to enjoy the beach, whether at sunset or early in the
morning, is to hop on the back of a horse at Umalas Stables Rice
field tours are also on offer. Committed riders can get excellent,
professional riding lessons, with great horses and ponies for
children. Horse lovers can stay in one of the stylish rooms or
studios above the stables, with good rice field views and free
use of the swimming pool.. “Osama Don't Surf” Surfing used
to be learned the hard way. You had to paddle your board past
the waves, watch the aficionados in awe, try to imitate
them, and get knocked down over and again.

Today
you don't need to swallow tons of water to learn those fancy tricks
seen in photographs - or at least stand long enough to catch the
eye of an admirer. If you've never surfed, Kuta Beach is your
chance. The waves are gentle, the landing is on soft sand, and
half of the crowd look like they don't know what they're doing
either. The water, however - , is polluted, especially during
the rainy season (November-February, which is not surf season
anyway).
Health-conscious
- surfers wear ear plugs to prevent infection Surfboards
are available for rent all around the beach, as well as bodyboards
for the less adventurous, Most surf shops, as well as free tabloids
distributed in bars, display surf tide charts. Before starting,
learn a bit of surf ethics - like waiting in line for the wave
and not cutting in front of other surfers, which may be dangerous.
Get the surf attitude: cool, relaxed, and tolerant. As they print
on T-shirts in Kuta: “Osama don't surf”
-Although
a bit crowded, the beaches of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak are the
best for beginners. There is a bit less of a crowd - but stronger,
more dangerous waves - on Petitenget Beach .
