Walking,
Biking and Birding around Ubud
The
best way to discover Ubud is free: walk in any direction through
the rice fields and watch the rice grow, the ducks waddle, and
the children play.
One
of Ubud's famous attractions is the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, located
around a number of temple grounds at the southern end of Monkey
Forest Road , the tiny sacred forest is home to hundreds of mischievous
long – tailed macaques. You will become an object of their attention
if you take any food with you. Better also to hide cameras, glasses,
and jewellery - including earrings – which may be snatched away
in a minute.
For
a great introduction to the Ubud surrounds, try the mythical 90-minute
circular walk around the Cam puhan Ridge, also suitable for mountain
bikes. The tour can begin from the Ibah Hotel or the Neka Art
Museum . From Ibah, take the path on your left as you enter the
road leading up to the hotel. The path takes you down some steps
past Pura Gunung Lebah . It is paved for about I km, then takes
you along the ridge top through tall alang-alang grass. Stunning
views of coconut grovers, rivers and rice fields are on either
side.
