Travelling in south Bali is easy - the only challenge is to find peace and quiet. Everywhere, everything and everyone seem devoted to offering tourists an endless choice of accommodations, "transport", food, and various legal or illegal ways to have fun. Yet it is still possible to find quiet places with a natural feeling in south Bali.­

Most travellers spend their first night around Kuta and Seminyak, close to the airport, with an infinite choice of good accomodations at all prices. Travellers in search of nature and peace will quickly leave the crowded beches of Kuta and Seminyak - although they may like to come back later for a bit of shopping or partying.

A few kilometres away, the older resort of Sanur offers a peaceful alternative with a good choice of accommodations along tree-lined streets, and a quite beach with easy swimming - well suite children.

For small white sand beaches and mythical surf waves, spend a bit of time around the Bukit Peninsula to the south of Kuta, enjoying great hotels above stunning views of the cliffs and the blue ocean.

A stay in Bali would feel incomplete without a stop in Ubud, the gateway to the "true Bali ” –although Ubud seems to have turned painting, dancing, and rice field views into commodities just as Kuta did with sunsets and magic mushrooms. Beyond the busy stree­ts, and art markets, you will still find family homestays and wonderful little hotels hidden in the rice fields. This is also a great place to get introduced to Balinese nature through rice field walks, herb walks, bird-watching tours, and an endless array of dancing, painting, cooking, or ­music classes - not to mention great museums galleries, and ubiquitous dance performance.

Around Ubud, touring the old kingdom of Gianyar, travellers in search of culture and history will find great archeological sites such as Tirta Empul or Gunung Kawi. Everywhere in the countryside, in the surrounds of Ubud, you will find a great choice of accomodations in all price ranges.
