Spicy Hands at Casa Luna Cooking Classes

Learning about Balinese food and cooking is a great entry into the culture - and, as any participant can testify, it is plain fun. Classes start with a tour of the Ubud market. Don't miss this chance to spend a whole day wading through colours, smells, and exotic tastes, and impress your friends back home as you recreate the spicy joy of a Balinese meal.

A World of Dances

Ubud is the perfect to discover the endless realm of Balinese music and dances. Some of the places mentioned above, lke ARMA or Pondok Pekak , organise dance practices and shows. Most hotels stage performances – enjoyable, but lacking the magical, natural beauty of temple dances. Many tourist villages hold their own shows. The easiest way to see authentic dances is to ask your hotel's staff for the next ceremony temples. Also ask them about proper attire and behaviour.

The dance troupes in Ubud Palace and Pura Dalem are of an international standard and frequently go abroad. There is a policy of rotating them as much as possible to prevent them from getting stale. Every evening , a different performance is held at 7 or 7:30pm in Ubud Palace . Down the road, next to Kunang- Kunang II shop beautiful Pura Dalem temple, softly lit by traditional coconut oil lamps, holds performances four times a week. There is a great kecak, fire and trance dance, on Monday and Fridays at 7:30pm, a barong and keri s dance on Thursdays at 7:30pm, and a dramatic jegog bamboo orchestra with dances on Wednesdays at 7pm. Pura Dalem is a key village temple, so performances can't take place if there is a ceremony. Ask at Murni's Kunang – Kunang II shop for more precise information.
