A
Garden Home at Le Jardin
This
little gem, which name is French for "the garden", is
designed around hospitality and friendliness. Simple bungalows
are set well apart in a colorful garden against an arid hill.
Guests are offered a lower price if they choose to use the fans
instead of air conditioners. Hot water comes from a simple, locally-made
solar heater. The founder, a French-speaking nurse, provides health
care to the neighboring villagers and participates in local waste
recycling initiatives. She serves excellent food in the cozy restaurant
in front of the bungalows. Don't miss the fresh fruit pies and
sorbets.
Just
after Le Jardin, on the beach side of the road, Vienna
Beach was the first hotel built on Amed Beach .
Once a simple row of huts in which chickens roamed free,
it has kept a simple, relaxed atmosphere with plain bamboo
bungalows in a garden, each with its small veranda facing the
ocean. Ask at the reception for tours and walks in the area, or
for a relaxing massage.
Where
to Stay – Selang and Aas

Driving
east past Lipah, the road climbs above the sea in sharp turns,
revealing fantastic views of the ocean. On clear days, it is possible
to spot the island of Lombok , about 35km away from Cape Ibus
- an adventurer once swam the distance, followed by a boat
for security. There are only a few hotels in Selang and Aas, which
makes it an ideal location if you are after peace and quiet.
Under
the Banyan Trees at Good Karma
"Talking
and joking with Baba" says the name card of this little
hotel, one of the first established in Amed Beach . The owner
is a well-known figure engaged in defending rights of local communities,
providing social care, and looking after the environment. Over
the years, he has transformed the barren coast around his hotels
into a dark, shading jungle of banyan trees under which plain
wooden bungalows are nestled, each with its own little
